Treatment Guide
Fotona 4D Non-Surgical Facelift
Fotona 4D combines four distinct laser modes in a single session: one mode works intra-orally to tighten from within the mouth, while the others treat the skin’s surface and deeper layers to stimulate collagen remodelling. This layered approach is what allows Fotona 4D to lift sagging skin and soften wrinkles in ways a single-wavelength laser cannot match.
- SmoothLiftin™ (intraoral tightening) — a gentle, non-ablative treatment delivered from inside the mouth to kick-start tightening around the jawline and perioral area, softening expression lines like the nasolabial folds much like a natural filler effect.
- FRAC3® (fractional rejuvenation) — a fractional Nd:YAG mode that precisely targets deeper imperfections such as pigment, sun spots and deeper lines, restoring a more youthful, even texture while stimulating new collagen (neocollagenesis).
- PIANO® (deep dermal heating) — a brushing technique that safely and rapidly applies bulk heating to the deeper dermis, homogeneously stimulating collagen for an overall tightening and lifting effect.
- SupErficial™ (light ablative polish) — a light resurfacing peel that finishes the treatment, refining overall skin tone and texture for a fresher, smoother, more even complexion.
What Fotona 4D Can Treat
- Sagging jowls and drooping skin along the jawline
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Loss of facial volume and skin laxity
- Neck and under-chin tightening
- Overall skin tone and texture
Fotona4D vs a Surgical Facelift
Unlike a surgical facelift, Fotona 4D requires no incisions, no anaesthesia and no recovery period — most clients return to normal activities immediately. Results build gradually and naturally over a course of sessions, avoiding the “overdone” look some clients worry about with surgery, while still delivering a visible lift and firming effect.
Who Is It Suitable For?
Fotona 4D is suitable for most adults aged 30–65+ across a range of skin types, whether you’re looking to prevent early signs of ageing or address more established sagging and volume loss. A full consultation will confirm compatibility with your skin and any other treatments you’re considering.
What to Expect
Every Fotona 4D journey starts with a one-to-one consultation to assess your skin and agree a bespoke treatment plan. The treatment itself is generally described as comfortable, requiring no anaesthetic, with sessions typically spaced a few weeks apart for a full course. Aftercare guidance is provided to help you get the most from your results.
Fotona 4D FAQs
The laser thermally stimulates the skin at different depths, triggering your body’s own collagen production — the effect builds gradually rather than all at once, giving a natural-looking lift.
Most clients describe the treatment as a warming sensation rather than pain, with no anaesthetic required.
A full course of Fotona treatment is a fraction of the cost of comparable surgical procedures, with none of the downtime or surgical risk.
Many clients notice some improvement immediately after treatment, with the fuller effect developing over 2–3 months as collagen remodelling continues.
Yes – Fotona 4D is genuinely well suited to combining with skin boosters (Profhilo, Sunekos, Modelha Densify), PRF, and other Fotona treatments like TwinLight or SmoothEye, as part of a broader plan. Timing and sequencing is agreed at consultation.
The equipment and the level of practitioner training required (VTCT Level 5/6/7 plus extensive laser protocol experience) mean very few clinics invest in it — Eva Clinic Bath is currently the only South West clinic offering it.
Fotona 4D is supported by a growing body of published research. A 2017 clinical study in the Journal of Laser and Health Academy found that Fotona 4D treatment improved skin elasticity and fine lines after only a few sessions, with high patient satisfaction and natural-looking outcomes (Drnovšek-Olup et al., 2017). A separate study found that the intraoral SmoothLiftin step measurably increased dermal collagen density and reduced nasolabial fold depth (Vokurka et al., 2019). A more recent randomised clinical trial evaluated Fotona 4D’s effects on wrinkles, firmness, smoothness, roughness and elasticity using both clinical assessment and non-invasive measurement tools. Most patients notice some results immediately after treatment, with full results developing gradually over 2–3 months as new collagen forms.
