Treatment Guide
CFU® Ultrasound Face Lifting
What Is CFU?
CFU is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment for facial and body lifting, delivered on the Renova Omnia platform. Its scientific basis is HIFU — high-intensity focused ultrasound — one of the most extensively researched non-surgical technologies for skin tightening available today. Rather than heating the skin’s surface, CFU concentrates ultrasound energy at a precise focal depth, stimulating the body’s own natural tissue repair and collagen regeneration process from within.
How CFU Works: Focused Ultrasound Explained
CFU delivers ultrasound waves that create thermal energy at a specific, controllable focal distance beneath the skin — rather than warming everything in between, the energy is concentrated exactly where it’s needed. Using a frequency of up to 10Hz, this allows the treatment to more quickly and precisely target the exact skin layer being addressed, whether that’s a more superficial layer for skin quality or a deeper layer for structural lifting. The practitioner selects the appropriate transducer and calibrates power and mode according to your skin, the area being treated, and the result you’re looking for — meaning treatment is genuinely tailored rather than one-size-fits-all.
What CFU Can Treat
- Facial skin laxity and loss of the facial oval/jawline definition
- Neck and body skin tightening
- Superficial and deeper wrinkles
- General facial contour and lifting
CFU vs Other Non-Surgical Lifting Treatments
HIFU-based technology like CFU sits in a genuinely well-evidenced category of non-surgical lifting, alongside treatments like Fotona 4D — each working through a different mechanism (focused ultrasound vs laser), but both aiming to stimulate the skin’s own collagen production for a firmer, lifted result without surgery. Where CFU differs is its use of focused ultrasound specifically, which research has shown penetrates tissue more deeply than laser or radiofrequency energy, reaching structural layers that other non-invasive technologies may not access as directly.
What to Expect: Sessions, Comfort & Aftercare
CFU is generally well tolerated, with most clients describing a warming or tingling sensation as the ultrasound energy reaches its focal point; no anaesthetic is typically required. There’s no downtime — you can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. Results build gradually as your body’s own collagen regeneration process continues over the following weeks and months, and a course of sessions is often recommended depending on the depth and area of concern being treated.
CFU® Ultrasound Face Lifting FAQs
CFU is built on HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) technology – the same well-studied underlying science, delivered through the Renova Omnia platform.
Most clients describe a warming or tingling sensation rather than pain, and anaesthetic is not typically required.
This depends on your skin and the area being treated — we’ll agree the right plan for you at consultation, since treatment is tailored to the specific depth and result you’re looking for.
Both are genuinely effective non-surgical lifting technologies working through different mechanisms — CFU uses focused ultrasound, Fotona 4D uses combined laser wavelengths. Which suits you best depends on your specific skin and goals, discussed at consultation.
None – you can return to your normal routine immediately after treatment.
HIFU and micro-focused ultrasound technologies are among the most extensively studied non-surgical lifting treatments in aesthetic medicine. A 2024 systematic review covering 45 clinical trials and cohort studies published between 2010 and 2024 found HIFU demonstrated significant efficacy in skin tightening, particularly in the lower face, neck and periorbital regions, with improvements in skin laxity ranging from 18% to 30%. A separate systematic review of micro-focused ultrasound found that pooled investigator-reported outcomes showed 92% of patients demonstrated improvement in skin tightening and/or wrinkle reduction at 90 days, with measurable brow lift and submental tightening effects documented across multiple studies. A randomised, blinded prospective study specifically evaluating ultrasound treatment for the upper face found meaningful improvement in mild-to-moderate brow ptosis, sustained through 180-day follow-up.
