PRF Under-Eye Mesotherapy

What Is PRF Under-Eye Treatment?

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a natural, regenerative treatment that uses your own blood to address dark circles, hollowing, and fine lines around the delicate eye area. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, PRF works by concentrating your blood’s own growth factors within a fibrin matrix, stimulating your skin’s own collagen production rather than adding volume directly. This makes it a genuinely subtle, long-lasting, and non-allergenic approach — ideal for an area where many clients are understandably cautious about anything synthetic.

How It Works: From Blood Draw to Injection

A small blood sample is taken and centrifuged at a lower speed than standard PRP, which is what creates PRF’s distinctive fibrin matrix — a scaffold-like structure that traps platelets, white blood cells, and growth factors together, rather than isolating platelets alone. This concentrated PRF is then carefully injected into the tear trough area, often using a cannula for gentler, more precise placement in this sensitive region compared with a needle.

PRF vs Hyaluronic Acid Filler for the Under-Eye Area

The under-eye area is one of the more technically demanding places to treat, and PRF offers a genuinely different approach to HA filler rather than simply a “natural” alternative:

  • Mechanism: filler adds volume directly; PRF stimulates your own collagen production, gradually thickening and strengthening the skin itself.
  • Why this matters for dark circles specifically: dark circles are often partly caused by thin under-eye skin allowing underlying blood vessels to show through — PRF’s collagen-stimulating effect can genuinely thicken and densify this skin over time, addressing part of the root cause rather than just masking it with volume.
  • Slower, more gradual results: because PRF releases growth factors slowly (over roughly 7–10 days, compared with PRP’s more rapid release), results build steadily rather than appearing immediately — a trade-off for the more natural, subtle outcome many clients want in this area.
  • Risk profile: because it’s entirely autologous (from your own blood), there’s no risk of the allergic reactions or nodule formation occasionally associated with synthetic fillers in this area.

Benefits

  • Improves the appearance of under-eye darkness and discolouration
  • Tightens crepey, thin under-eye skin
  • Reduces the appearance of hollowness for a more refreshed look
  • Stimulates genuine collagen production rather than temporarily adding volume
  • Non-allergenic — made entirely from your own blood
  • A subtle, natural-looking result well suited to clients wary of synthetic filler in this delicate area

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Good candidacy comes down to a few genuine factors, worth being honest about rather than assuming everyone’s an ideal candidate:

  • Blood quality matters. PRF relies on having sufficient platelet count and healthy blood to form an effective fibrin matrix — this is why we recommend blood testing beforehand where indicated. Clients with low platelet counts or certain blood disorders are not suitable candidates.
  • Age plays a genuine role. Generally speaking, younger patients tend to see a stronger regenerative response, since platelet quality and the body’s overall healing and collagen-producing capacity naturally decline with age. That said, PRF can still deliver meaningful, worthwhile improvement for more mature under-eye skin — it’s a difference in degree, not a hard cut-off, and your specific candidacy is best assessed individually rather than by age alone.
  • General health matters. Not suitable for anyone with certain blood disorders, active cancer, or who is pregnant. Smoking impairs healing and should ideally be avoided for a couple of weeks before treatment and up to 72 hours afterwards. Blood-thinning medications and NSAIDs (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) should be avoided for at least 48 hours prior, where medically appropriate to do so.
  • Suitable for a range of under-eye concerns, though clients with more significant volume loss or structural hollowing may see better results combined with, or referred toward, other approaches — this is assessed honestly at consultation rather than assuming PRF is the right fit for every degree of under-eye ageing.
  • Skin and health status on the day matters too — treatment is postponed if you’re unwell, or if the treatment area has active infection, irritation, or damage.

All of this is properly assessed at consultation, not assumed — this matters more for PRF than for some other treatments, precisely because it’s your own blood being used.

How to Improve Your Blood Quality Before Treatment

Because PRF’s effectiveness depends directly on the quality of your own blood, there’s genuinely something you can do beforehand — this matters for every client, but especially if you’re not in your 20s or 30s, since supporting your body’s platelet function becomes more valuable as the natural baseline declines with age.

Lifestyle changes that genuinely help:Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to treatment — good hydration supports healthy blood volume and a smoother blood draw and processing. – Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before treatment, ideally longer — alcohol measurably reduces platelet count and function. – Stop smoking, or cut down as much as possible, for at least two weeks beforehand and up to 72 hours afterwards — smoking impairs both platelet function and healing. – Avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen) for at least 3–7 days prior, since these interfere with platelet function and the inflammatory response PRF relies on. – Get good-quality sleep in the run-up to treatment. – Moderate exercise in the days before can support healthy circulation and platelet function. – Manage stress where you can — chronically elevated cortisol can negatively affect platelet production over time.

Nutrition that supports platelet health: – A diet rich in lean protein, vitamin C, zinc, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids supports both platelet function and the collagen-building process PRF is designed to stimulate. – Folate and vitamins B12, D and K all play a role in healthy platelet production. – Avoid relying on refined sugar and heavily processed food in the days immediately before treatment.

A note on supplements: some supplements — fish oil, high-dose vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, and garlic supplements among them — have a blood-thinning effect and are generally advised to stop for about a week before treatment. Please don’t stop or start any supplement or medication without discussing it with us or your GP first, since this needs to be balanced against your other health needs.

What Blood Tests Are Recommended Beforehand?

The main test relevant to PRF is a Full Blood Count (FBC) — this checks your platelet count specifically, confirming you have a sufficient baseline to form an effective fibrin matrix. This is the single most directly relevant test.

Depending on your individual health history, we may also recommend or require: – Iron studies/ferritin — since iron deficiency can affect both platelet production and general healing capacity. – Standard infectious disease screening (as is routine practice for any procedure involving blood collection and processing). – General health markers relevant to your individual medical history, discussed and agreed with you at consultation.

Not every client needs every test — what’s genuinely relevant depends on your health history and what comes up at consultation, which is why this is discussed individually rather than applied as a blanket protocol.

Treatment Plan, Results & Longevity

Results develop gradually over 6–8 weeks as your skin’s own collagen production responds to treatment, with best results usually seen after 3–4 months as this continues to build. A typical treatment plan involves 3–5 sessions, spaced around 4 weeks apart, to achieve optimal, long-lasting results — this staged approach reflects the genuinely biological, cumulative nature of what PRF is doing, rather than a single quick fix.

Downtime & Aftercare

Downtime is minimal, with the potential for mild swelling or bruising lasting 3–5 days — slightly longer than some other injectable treatments, reflecting the delicate, thin skin of the treatment area. Sun protection is important in the days following treatment, and it’s best to avoid rubbing the area, strenuous exercise, and excessive heat exposure for the first 24–48 hours.

PRF Under-Eye FAQs

Yes – because it’s made entirely from your own blood, with nothing foreign introduced, there’s no risk of allergic reaction or the nodule formation occasionally seen with synthetic fillers in this area.

PRF is processed at a lower centrifuge speed, creating a fibrin matrix that releases growth factors more slowly (over roughly 7–10 days) rather than in a quick burst — this tends to suit the gradual, subtle results many clients want for the eye area specifically.

This depends on your blood quality and general health — good platelet levels, no relevant blood disorders, and no contraindicating medications or conditions. Age can influence how strong your response is, with younger patients generally seeing a more pronounced effect, though PRF remains a worthwhile option across a range of ages. We’ll assess your suitability properly at consultation.

Yes – while platelet quality and regenerative capacity naturally decline somewhat with age, there’s genuinely a lot you can do beforehand: staying well hydrated, eating a nutrient-rich diet, avoiding alcohol and smoking, and getting good sleep in the weeks leading up to treatment all support healthier platelet function regardless of age.

A Full Blood Count (FBC) – which includes your platelet count – is the main test relevant here, and we’ll discuss whether this is needed for you at consultation.

PRF’s use in the periorbital area is supported by growing clinical evidence. A split-face study comparing PRF with PRP found greater improvement in skin texture and laxity with PRF, alongside strong patient satisfaction. A case series specifically evaluating injectable PRF combined with hyaluronic acid for lower eyelid actinic elastosis (sun-related skin ageing) found progressive aesthetic improvement and high patient satisfaction across treated patients. Separate published research has evaluated the effect of platelet-rich fibrin matrix specifically on periorbital wrinkles, and clinical trial data has assessed PRF’s role in tear trough rejuvenation compared with hyaluronic acid filler. PRF’s slower growth factor release, attributed to its fibrin matrix trapping platelets and white blood cells together (as opposed to PRP’s faster-release mechanism), is the proposed biological basis for its more gradual, sustained effect.
