Treatment Guide
Hair Restoration Consultation
Why a Thorough Consultation Matters for Hair Loss
Hair loss rarely has a single cause. Genetics, hormones, nutrition, stress, medication, and underlying gut or metabolic health can all play a part — often several at once. Choosing a treatment before understanding what’s actually driving your hair loss is one of the most common reasons people don’t see the results they hoped for. That’s why every hair restoration plan at Eva Clinic starts with a proper consultation, not a menu of treatments to pick from.
Step 1: Lifestyle & History Questionnaire
Your consultation begins with a detailed lifestyle and history questionnaire, covering areas that genuinely influence hair health: sleep, stress levels, diet, exercise, smoking and alcohol, recent life changes (such as pregnancy, illness or major weight change), and your family history of hair loss. This isn’t a formality — patterns in this questionnaire often point directly to what’s worth investigating further, and shape which treatments are likely to help.
Step 2: Medication Review
Your medication history is reviewed by Anna, our Nurse Prescriber, who understands how different medications and supplements can affect hair growth or shedding — including certain blood pressure medications, antidepressants, hormonal contraception, and even high-dose vitamin A supplementation. This isn’t about second-guessing your prescriptions; it’s about understanding the full picture before recommending treatment, and flagging anything worth discussing with your GP if relevant.
Step 3: Testing — Getting to the Root Cause
For many clients, especially where hair loss is diffuse, sudden, or not responding to previous treatment, testing can add real clarity:
- GI Axis Gut Microbial Test — for clients interested in exploring the gut-skin-hair connection, we offer access to the GI Axis Advanced test (via GutMapDx), which looks at gut bacterial balance and digestive markers that research increasingly links to inflammation affecting hair and skin.
- General blood tests — we recommend baseline bloods (such as ferritin/iron, vitamin D, B12 and thyroid function) where relevant, since deficiencies here are a well-established, common and very treatable cause of hair thinning that’s easy to miss without testing.
- Hormonal blood tests — where hormonal imbalance is a possible factor (common around perimenopause, postpartum, or with suspected thyroid or androgen-related hair loss), we recommend hormonal panel testing to build a clearer picture alongside your consultation findings.
All testing is optional and discussed with you first — nothing is ordered without your understanding of why it’s being suggested and what it might tell us. Results are reviewed and interpreted by Anna, our Nurse Prescriber, ensuring you get a properly qualified clinical read on what your results mean for your treatment plan.
Building Your Personalised Treatment Plan
Once we’ve built a full picture — your history, lifestyle, medication review, and any test results you choose to pursue — we put together a treatment plan specific to you. This might include in-clinic treatments like Fotona HAIRestart or copper peptide micro-injection, nutritional or supplement guidance, referral back to your GP if something outside our scope needs addressing, or a combination of approaches. The goal is always to treat what’s actually going on, not to apply the same protocol to every client regardless of cause.
What to Bring to Your Consultation
To make the most of your appointment, it helps to bring: – A list of current medications and supplements – Any recent relevant blood test results, if you have them – Photos of your hair from 6–12 months ago, if available, for comparison – Any specific concerns or questions you’d like to cover
Treatment Details
Not always – it depends on your history and what the consultation uncovers. Where your hair loss pattern suggests a nutritional, hormonal or gut-related contributing factor, testing helps target treatment more effectively, but it’s your choice whether to pursue it.
Testing is arranged as part of your consultation pathway, with results reviewed by Anna, our Nurse Prescriber — so you always have a properly qualified clinical interpretation of your results, not just raw numbers.
We assess your hair, scalp and history to guide the most suitable aesthetic treatment plan, with Anna reviewing medication and test results in her role as Nurse Prescriber. Where a medical diagnosis is needed — for example, a thyroid condition or another medical cause requiring prescription treatment — we’ll refer you to your GP alongside any aesthetic plan we put together.
Allow at least 30 minutes. Enough time to properly cover your history, questionnaire and any questions you have- this isn’t a rushed appointment, because the plan we build depends on getting this part right.
No – it’s offered as an optional part of the picture for clients interested in exploring the gut-hair connection, not assumed as standard for every hair consultation.
